Coast Casinos Set Record

BILOXI — June was jumping at the Coast casinos, which saw record breaking casino gross revenues.

This June’s $116.6 million topped last June’s revenue and beat June 2005’s numbers by about $9 million.

That is a sharp contrast to many other casinos around the country.  Casino revenue fell 16 percent on the Las Vegas Strip in May, the latest month reported, for its sixth monthly decline.  Atlantic City casinos were down 11 percent from last June, Indiana lost $3 million from the previous June, and Colorado’s revenue has dropped more than 10 percent since the beginning of the year.

Mississippi’s river casinos didn’t fare as well as the Coast, dropping $7 million below last June’s gross casino revenues.  But the Coast’s record numbers kept the total state revenues slightly above last June’s.

For the first half of 2008 Coast casinos have earned $658 million, about $5 million above last year’s record setting pace.
